We are building a woodfired brick and stone bake oven, with granite countertops and a connecting grill.
We build a block base on a concrete footing, that we pour on styrofoam. We pour an insulating light weight slab to mount our refractory tiles. We’ll install a damper and then smoke shelf and chimney. We have completed a bluestone entry and small retaining walls around the gardens, There is a large circular patio at the oven and granite steps to the house and down to the back lawn.
We use the large irregular bluestone and set it in mortar on a concrete slab like the main entry, or on compacted graded gravel and stone dust, as in the side entry.
We build a dry laid stone and backfilled it with concrete on a crushed rock base to make a level area for the patio. It is hard to realize how much slope you have until you shoot a grade, here we are raising the level 14″ to get a small incline.
