Maine Granite Piers
We specialize in Maine granite. We use granite from old grout piles. There used to be a huge granite industry here in central Maine as well as on the coast. We get what wasn’t perfect when it was cut for a finish use, but makes a stong, rougher, more organic approach to building today. We start by excavating, pouring a footing, building to near grade and then at 6 inches below grade we start with the stone work. Or we dig down 20 inches and install 8 inches of crushed rock, pour a 6 inch footing and float the pillar. We fill the center with concrete and run a conduit for a light.
